Day One:
Arrive today and settle into your accommodation. The cottages are located within the heart of the Nottinghamshire countryside just a short drive away from Sherwood Forest. This evening you have a variety of local restaurants and pubs to choose from, all just a drive (or walk) away depending on where you choose to stay.
Day Two:
After breakfast today you will be heading to the riding centre, a short drive from where you will be staying. The Children’s programme runs from 10am - 1pm each day. During this time the children will ride twice. They will start the morning with a lesson followed by stable management instruction where they will be learning how to care for and handle their pony safely. Lastly they will go on a hack. They will be under the supervision of their instructor at all times. The pony mornings are available for all ages and abilities. Adults who would like to enjoy riding themselves can take a lesson in the morning and/or a hack later to coincide with dropping off and picking up their children, leaving plenty of time to explore the lovely area in the afternoons.
Day three, four, five :
Today there will be another fun packed morning at the stables for the children. Adults can follow a similar programme to yesterday, allowing you time in the afternoon to take a walk through Sherwood Forest. Alternatively you may like to visit the historical Welbeck Estate. This evening you can choose from a range of dining experiences in the pretty local village of Tarporley. Here there are a number of recommended pubs and restaurants including The Elmtree at Elmton, Thai Cassia Bar and Restaurant , or The Devonshire Pub.
Day Six:
This is the last day at the stables for the children who should now be experts, and will no doubt take great delight in explaining to you in great detail the difference between a dandy brush and a body brush! Those adults who have chosen to ride will have improved too, but don’t worry if you don’t want to ride there is so much to do in this lovely area. Today, why not enjoy a stroll through the forest or explore the Welbeck Estate's many popular walking routes. This is a popular destination for local riders and walkers, there is a beautiful cafe and farm shop within the grounds where you can take a rest and enjoy a coffee whilst admiring the views and watching all forms of wildlife.
Day Seven:
Today you will be departing but before you go you may like to visit The Lace Market, just a short walk away from the Old Market Square in Nottingham centre is the historic Lace Market, once the heart of Britain's lace industry. Protected as one of the city's most important heritage zones, these former warehouses and display rooms now house numerous shops, restaurants, and lace makers. Or Creswell Crags, a spectacular magnesian limestone gorge with visitor centre. Dotted with a large number of caves, fissures and rock shelters, many of which harboured secrets from our Prehistoric past. Archaeologists have been excavating these caves since the 19th Century, when the Victorians first discovered the artefacts that lay beneath the cave floors. So much material was excavated early on that many of today’s archaeologists now excavate the spoil heaps (rubbish dumps) of previous excavations to find any artefacts which were missed!
