The Rushmore Estate is nestled within the Cranborne Chase, an ancient deer forest, where King John came to hunt and, within which the “Chase Rights” applied from the Saxon period until 1828. It is a unique area in terms of historical landscape, with a rich archaeological heritage and diversity of flora and fauna. Today, the Estate is involved in a variety of activities including farming, forestry, conservation, leisure and sporting pursuits.

Day One

Arrive and settle into your chosen accommodation. Each of the properties that we offer are set in and around the Rushmore Estate.

This afternoon you will be meeting the horses, all of which have an interesting story behind them. Once comfortable Angie or a member of staff will be taking you for your first ride out through the thick woods away from the hustle and bustle of the day to day work and life. After the ride relax and enjoy the tranquility of this beautiful location - what better way to start your trip!

Day Two

This morning after a good night's sleep and breakfast you will head back to the stables to be reunited with your faithful steed. Take your camera so that you won't be disappointed as you will ride through the estate up to the hills of the Cranborne Chase to take in the spectacular views. You will be riding across King John’s hunting ground and over ancient Roman roads. Some rides take you into the famous ‘circle’. a circle of beech trees that King John planted to mark the crossroads of four Roman roads then moving on you will see the ancient Saxon burial mounds that are situated on the estate. As you are the only riders permitted on the estate this really is a truly exclusive trip. There are no cars allowed in this area and you will hardly meet a soul apart from the wonderful wildlife; peace and tranquility abounds. On your journey homewards you may pass by the local village inn where fires roar in the winter and all the food is home made and locally sourced.

Day Three

An early morning ride today through the Estate may afford a glimpse of the wild deer that inhabit the ancient woodlands and valleys. Appreciate the stunning view across the Cranborne Chase once more.

Before you go home if you like your wines then its on to sample the delights of 'Museum Wines' which you are able to purchase and take home, or for those that don't drink it's morning brunch.

Rushmore Estate really is something straight out of a Jilly Cooper novel, you need to see it to believe it, a holiday you'll never forget begging you to come back again and again!

Please note that if you book the beginner riding package you will not under any circumstances be able to canter. Also note a 1/2 day ride is approx. 2hrs, a full day is 4hrs.
