At this retreat we encourage all of our riders to get to know their horses and take part in grooming and tacking up as well as the riding as we feel this helps you to get the most out of your experience. All hacks are guided by our professional horseman, Darren, with more than 20 years experience as a professional jockey, his incredible horsemanship, vast knowledge and expertise help make this holiday truly unique. On riding days experienced riders will spend up to 3 hours in the saddle exploring this incredible area. Visiting the surrounding villages, and taking in the beautiful views all around you all on our wonderful safe surefooted horses.
Catering for all ages and abilities, we can tailor your adventure to suit your requirements. Absolute beginners can enjoy a rope led short walk, as well as short hacks and lessons in our arena. For the more experienced riders we have longer hacks and tapas walks for those who want to sample the local gastronomy as part of the adventure. For longer hacks we prefer people to have experience in walk, trot and canter and be able to control the horse as there is a lot more saddle time involved, although we can cater for beginners in smaller groups with a combination of lessons and trekking.
On your arrival day you take part in an induction process where we talk you through all the safety aspects of your holiday including a riding assessment which will help us to pair you with the most suitable horse. Making sure your holiday is a safe enjoyable experience is paramount and we take safety very seriously.
In order to get the most out of your adventure we prefer to stick to small groups of 5 or less. This promotes a friendly atmosphere and ensures each person receives the attention they deserve with everyone feeling like they have got the most out of their time with us. Lessons are carried out on a one to one basis.
Our horses are a combination of Spanish and Arab, as they are best suited to the rocky mountainous terrain and the climate. As animal lovers we wanted to adopt the healthiest possible lifestyle for our horses because healthy happy horses are a joy to ride.
We also have a Shetland pony for families with younger children who cannot ride out on the hacks. In Pony club, we will teach how to groom and tack up the ponies, learn about stable management and general horse care and enjoy pony rides around the arena, as well as various games and activities. This will take place whilst the rest of the family are riding, enabling families with small children to still enjoy a full riding holiday.
During the months of July and August, as temperatures regularly exceeding 40°, we run reduced riding holidays when we take the horses out early morning or late evenings and the occasional Full Moon walk.
We do provide helmets but you are welcome to bring your own. You must however bring with you suitable footwear and riding gear to ensure you are safe and comfortable when riding.
ACCOMMODATION
Our onsite luxury accommodation with unbelievable facilities means you can combine a luxury holiday with your unforgettable riding experience.
Our luxury apartments are well appointed, spacious and very comfortable meaning you have everything you need to enjoy an incredible holiday. They are stylishly decorated and equipped with both air conditioning and heating so you are comfortable no matter what the time of year. They feature Samsung Smart TV's, DVD players and Bluetooth speakers and have private terraces overlooking the front of the property with its stunning cactus garden, orchard and views across the olive groves to the mountains. Each apartment has a small kitchenette and we recommend getting a taxi to the local supermarket to stock up on lunch time snacks - as dinner is eaten in the late evening in Spain.
Standard accommodation is based upon two people sharing a twin room, but if you don’t fancy sharing, double rooms are available with a single person supplement. All bedlinen and towels are provided, including pool towels.
Check in is at 15.00 hours and check out 11.00 hours. Though you are welcome to use the bar and pool area if you are on site outside of these times.
MEALS
Our holidays are partially catered, for example on a 7 night stay you will enjoy a fantastic continental breakfast each morning, and evening meals on riding days. Our fantastic meals are mainly catered at the retreat using a lot of our own freshly grown produce (time of year allowing) as well as locally sourced goods, but we also like to take our guests out to some of our best local restaurants to sample the local cuisine and experience the local lifestyle. Dinners are late in Spain and therefore we recommend stocking the apartment fridge with lunchtime snacks from the local supermarket.
All meals include a drink, either a soft drink, a glass of wine, or a beer.
FACILITIES
The retreat facilities are second to none, a fabulous south facing swimming pool means you can soak up the sun whatever the time of day. Surrounded by sunbeds you can relax around the pool with a good book or even sample one of our cocktails from the bar. When you get bored of sunbathing you can enjoy a game of pool or darts, or even a game of Petanque on our specially build court, you can take a walk around our 30000 sq mt retreat, taking in our beautiful fishing lake, the river bed and the incredible array of wildlife that can be found here or you can simply sit on your private terrace with a cold glass of wine and enjoy the incredible panoramic views.
The pool is not heated, it is open April to October.
If you want to get out and about and explore the region in your downtime we would highly recommend hiring a car, however there are excellent public transport links and we can also do drop offs to various location in our minibus. Charges depend on the destination. Our programme means you have plenty of downtime to enjoy the luxurious surroundings of the retreat, on a 7 day break there is a day off where you can take the opportunity to explore this incredible region. Whether you want to soak up the atmosphere in the cosmopolitan city of Malaga, take in a little culture in any one of the many fabulous historic towns such as Ronda, head towards the coast to soak up the sun on one of the many fabulous Costa del Sol beaches or sip a cocktail alongside the fabulous yachts in Puerto Banus after enjoying an afternoons shopping there really is something for everyone to enjoy. You may even want to try another activity such as paddleboarding, Mountain Biking, Surfing, Buggy rides and much more,
Malaga Airport transfers are available via our local taxi company from €65 each way or €95 for a minibus if there are more than 4 guests in a party. (There is a €7 surcharge for out of hours collections) -all payable directly.
Our local taxi can also be booked for exploring the area during your stay.
