Arrive at Catania Airport and transfer to your mountain chalet accommodation. Tonight we will all sit down to a traditional Sicilian welcome dinner.
Day 2 (hours of riding: 6)
Once at the stables we will match you up with a sicilian bred horse who is surefooted and familiar with the terrain. Setting off from Le Terre di Castel Leone in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia at around 8.30 in the morning, we ride along country lanes and tracks passing through vineyards, lava flows, forests of hazel, chestnut, oak and broom, and the small village of Solicchiata. After about three and half hours of riding we will arrive at the Palombe cave, where we will take a break and eat a picnic lunch, before continuing with the ride through woods and along lava flows. We reach the Pineta diRagabo, a forest of giant pine trees, in the forest, we will stop briefly to visit the Corruccio cave, then we continue on through the trees to reach the Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi , where we will enjoy a delicious dinner made with typical produce from the local area and spend the night.
Day 3 (hours of riding: 6)
After breakfast, your horse is saddled up and we set off through the pine forest to reach the lava flows from the last major eruption of 2002. Following the flows, we cross before arriving at the Sartorius craters, which were created by a major eruption in 1865. After visiting the craters, we continue the ride through forests of birch and pine trees, passing beneath the impressive Concazza crater and arriving at the Piano Provenzana, a popular ski resort during the winter and a base for hikers during the warmer months of the year. We cross the Piano Provenzana before continuing on towards the impressive craters created by the last major eruption in 2002 where we stop for a picnic lunch and explore the craters. Back in the saddle, we pass the RifugioTimpa Rossa, then ride through beech woods, followed by forests of pine, chestnut and broom, before finally arriving back at our starting point, Le Terre di Castel Leone. A final four course dinner is served.
After breakfast transfer back to Catania Airport.
