"Their friendly and knowledgeable staff, lovely horses, and access to miles of beautiful countryside made for a wonderful holiday. It’s excellent for novice and experienced riders alike, and works particularly well for solo visitors. It allowed me to fast-track my riding while enjoying the equivalent of a house-party with new friends. Perfect!"
Monday
Arrive today and settle into your accommodation, a magnificent 17th century Lakeland farmhouse situated adjacent to the riding stables, which provides the perfect holiday setting. The yard too is full of character, having a real Victorian feel to it with a courtyard of cobbles, Victorian stalls and a traditional gin house. If you like architecturally beautiful properties then this one is for you! Riding will commence tomorrow morning.
Collection from Grange-over-Sands railway station is available for those who plan to travel without a car. Tonight, you can either visit one of the local villages for dinner just a few miles drive away or you may choose to enjoy dinner in the farmhouse.
Tuesday – Friday
This morning your riding plan will begin. This morning riders will be taking lessons, working either individually or in small groups to their appropriate level. We are happy to take complete beginners, riders with confidence issues or more experienced riders wanting to progress in the sport. We will take details of your riding level upon booking and discuss personally with you the riding plan you wish to follow.
After your lesson there will be a stable management session to enable everyone to learn the basics of horse care including grooming, tacking up, feeding, basic first aid etc.
After lunch we will be heading out into the wonderful Lakeland scenery for a ride out where new skills can be practised and confidence can be built up. The hacking takes place in no less than 2500 acres of private estate land which comprises of miles of secluded woodland tracks (where we often come across deer and other woodland wild life). A little hack away is what is locally known as 'the noddle', the most amazing view point offering excellent views of South Lakeland and Morecambe Bay.
The horses include hunters, show cobs, a retired competitive dressage horse and a selection of trustworthy coloured cobs, plus a fabulous mix of ponies; all have exceptional temperaments and will be delighted to show you their little piece of heaven. There is nothing quite like experiencing the Lake District from horse back.
All the treks are supervised by an experienced and qualified guide and are suitable for all levels of rider. Lead rein treks are available for less experienced riders.
Day Five
Today you will have your final ride before you depart, choose from another lesson or a last ride out.
There is plenty to do for non-riders too in this area including fishing, cycling and walking. The English Lake District has long been a popular destination in Britain for those wanting to enjoy some rest and relaxation. For non-riders you can enjoy the spectacular scenery from a bicycle or for walkers trekking in the hills is an experience you won't forget!
