On a natural horsemanship course you will learn how to get your horse to do what you want by understanding its behaviour and the inter-action that occurs between you both. You will learn to interpret your horse’s different behaviours and its responses, thus making life much easier in many varied situations. You will also be able to address any ‘issues’ that you have picked up yourself along the way.
You will be based at a luxurious and tranquil farmhouse bed and breakfast in the heart of the Cheshire countryside with its own private yard boasting stunning views across beautiful gardens and fields. The farmhouse has 3 twin bedrooms and there is a luxury self-contained cottage too with a four-poster bed. Guests have the choice of a traditional English breakfast or a lighter Continental breakfast. Lunches and evening meals can also be provided. Your trainer will be Anne Taplin (BHSI.SM, BHSII) www.eft-is-tapping.com. Anne is a specialist in classical and natural horsemanship, she is also an accredited sports psychology and an excellent communicator and teacher. She will tailor the teaching to suit your needs.
Day One:
Arrive today and settle yourself and your horse into the peace and tranquility of this four star farmhouse property. Stabling and grazing are available. This afternoon you will meet with your trainer, Anne Taplin, and there will be a general assessment of horse and rider in order to plan your program for the next few days. You will start today with an introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) (www.positiveriding.co.uk/resource.asp) and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) (www.emofree.com). The teaching will be both classroom based and practically based working with your horse in the arena. This evening there will be a sports massage demonstration on one of the horses. This will show you how equestrian sports massage is becoming recognised as a skill which helps to relieve pain, aid recovery and aid mental relaxation as well as physical relaxation in horses.
Day Two:
After a wonderful farmhouse breakfast this morning you will start the day in the classroom where you will be taught about the techniques involved in natural horsemanship to enable you and your horse to have a better understanding of each other. Then there will be a practical session involving desensitisation for horses. This will ultimately result in the horse showing fewer flight responses and needing fewer training sessions to learn to react calmly. This afternoon you can choose between flatwork, jumping or a combination, still working within the guidelines that you have agreed on day one. After dinner there will be the opportunity to witness a Reiki demonstration. Reiki benefits your horses own self healing process and allows it to cope better with illness and stress related conditions. It is also an effective means of helping your horse to deal with a variety of hectic or stressful lifestyles.
Day Three:
After breakfast this morning you will start with a classroom session where you will recap the techniques and principles learnt on the previous days. After this you will then have a practical session with your horse using natural horsemanship techniques. Departure after lunch.
