Country House Riding Break

Why not treat yourself to a short break away in a country house hotel in Cheshire and take the opportunity to enjoy some wonderful hacking in the Cheshire countryside.

Willington Hall Hotel stands in 17 acres of formal gardens and parkland with wonderful views across the Cheshire countryside towards the Welsh mountains. It was built in 1829 as a private house for a local family and then in 1977 was converted into a 10 bedroom hotel. The interior has retained its period features and each bedroom has been individually decorated with the finest furnishing fabrics and attention to detail to ensure that your stay is as pleasurable as possible. And, if all that was not already enough of an excuse for a weekend away, it also has a privately run BHS approved stables within its grounds.

The stable is superbly located to enjoy some of the very best hacking out across Cheshire’s rolling pastureland and into Delamere Forest.

Day One:

Arrive today and settle in to the hotel. If time permits we can organise a ride for you today or if not riding will start tomorrow. This evening dinner may be taken in the hotel's Gainsborough Restaurant. Local produce is freshly prepared by the excellent chefs and complemented by an extensive wine list.

Day Two:

After breakfast you will be walking through the grounds to the riding stables. After a short assessment you will be allocated your horse for a morning ride along picturesque bridleways and quiet country lanes as you head towards Delamere Forest, Cheshire’s largest woodland. This is a popular destination for local riders and there is an ideally situated horse-friendly café along the route where horses can take a rest and riders can enjoy a coffee whilst admiring the views. This evening choose from a range of dining experiences either in the hotel or in the pretty, local village of Tarporley. The Swan pub has an award winning Chef, The Rising Sun is renowned for exquisite food and Cristiano’s is one of the best Italian restaurants in Cheshire.

Day Three:

After breakfast today the choice is yours, either enjoy another ride out in the Cheshire countryside or take a lesson on one of the stables well schooled horses. For non-riders and for those wanting to do some sight-seeing, the historic city of Chester is only a 15 minute drive; its unique black and white Tudor-style shopping rows draw visitors from around the globe. Beeston Castle is a 10 minute drive, at its summit the spectacular views spans across 5 counties. Or the pretty village of Tarporley is only a 5 minutes drive away, here you can enjoy a coffee in the Old Fire Station Chocolate Shop.

The cost of the itinerary which includes 2 nights bed and English breakfast in Willington Hall Hotel and 2 riding opportunities (either hacks or lessons) is £225 per person. Extra riding and/or stable management lessons can also be provided. This break is available any days between Sunday and Friday until October (excluding Saturday) and then any days of the week November - May.
