Hoof Camp Portugal

Hoof Camp Portugal

We have been working with Katharine in Portugal now for 4 years. When she came to us last December with her ‘Hoof Camp’ idea we were in no doubt that it would be a huge success – riding, relaxation, exercise and healthy homecooked food to start the year off is surely top of everyone’s New Year’s resolution list, right?  So we wasted no time in booking our flights and headed out there, we were set to start 2016 off on the right foot (or hoof).

As always Katharine didn’t disappoint. After a straightforward 2 and a half hour flight from Manchester to Faro we were met by her partner Martin who drove us the 1hr distance to their home located in the beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal. This was to be our home for the next few days and we were hoping to return to blighty a few pounds lighter!

We were greeted by Katharine who, instead of the usual chilled white wine and Portuguese tarts had fresh smoothies and fruit for us to enjoy – the start of things to come!

We started Hoof Camp that afternoon with a short refresher lesson in the arena followed by a lovely countryside hack out. Dinner was homecooked, healthy and delicious (and not a drop of alcohol in sight). The following two days consisted of early morning pilates, balanced breakfasts, riding out in this stunning region on Katharine’s beautifully trained horses, followed by healthy lunches, evening yoga and hearty dinners, along with great company and good conversation. If only we were able to stay for the full week!

While we were there our fellow ‘Hoof Camp’ers’ left some fantastic feedback (below):

“Hoof camp was a great energiser to get into good habits post new year excesses!!  Katharine is a great fitness and riding instructor.  She’s a great motivator and adapts the itinerary for your desired outcomes/fitness level.  The location is stunning and a great mix of lessons in the school and hacks out around the lakes and countryside.”

“An excellent, all-inclusive holiday. The food was very good and healthy… The quality of riding was very good. So enjoyable to ride for miles off road with stunning scenery. Overall this holiday was very enjoyable. We will both make every effort to go on ‘Hoof Camp’ again next year.”

Personally, we couldn’t agree more with them and with Hoof Camp returning January 2017 we’ll be first in line for signing up!
