Arrive and settle into your self-catering accommodation. You will stay in a lovely rustic log cabin which is located on the edge of the Cranborne Chase estate a short walk from the Village of Tollard Royal. The lodge is made up of a lounge, kitchen/diner, shower room and a private bedroom which can be made up to a twin or double. There is a small double sofa bed in the living room. Robes and slippers are provided, plus a welcome pack with milk, bread, cereal, biscuits, chocolates etc. The lodge has its own private patio with a BBQ and heater. If you would like to have breakfast with Angie in the house the price is £7.50pp and can be paid for directly. Lunch and evening meals are also available in the house at a cost of £7.50pp and £17.50pp respectively.
This morning after a good night's sleep you will start your riding. Children will received three pony days which run from approximately 10am-4pm and include a packed lunch. The pony days consist of 3hrs of riding, a lesson and a hack out (on the lead rein for those with less experience). Stable management including mucking out and poo picking the paddocks, grooming, feeding, tack cleaning, pony care etc. Everything that you would expect to have to do if you had your own pony. There is round the clock supervision for your children with qualified staff members who will be able to teach those with less or no experience.
Adults will have three half day rides (2hrs each session). Take your camera so that you won't be disappointed as you will ride through the country estate up to the hills of the Cranborne Chase to take in the spectacular views. You will be riding across King John’s hunting ground and over ancient Roman roads, and if you are lucky Angie might take you into the famous ‘circle’. A circle of beech trees that King John planted to mark the crossroads of four Roman roads. You will also view ancient Saxon burial mounds that are situated on the estate. Whilst riding out Angie will give you a history update of the 8,000 acre Estate, followed by a stop off at the local pub, The Museum Inn which was built at the orders of General Pitt Rivers who was part of the estate, and who excavated the Estate's history.
There is no doubt that this is a magical sight to see on horse back! As you are the only riders permitted on the estate this really is a truly exclusive trip never to forget. There are no cars allowed in this area and you will hardly meet a soul apart from the wonderful wildlife, peace and tranquility. This is a working estate and the land and wildlife preserved - this has to be taken into account with the route and the pace of your ride.
This evening you may choose to make use of the kitchenette (fridge, microwave and hob), or dine in the local village inn, The King John which is a short walk from where you are staying. All the food is home made and locally sourced - the puddings must be sampled! There are several other recommended pubs in the area within a short drive away.
Today will follow a similar pattern as yesterday. Hopefully both adults and children will have formed a bond with their horses and ponies, and beginners will practice newly learnt skills. Children will get their ponies ready for the day a head, while Angie will take the adults on a morning ride through the Estate where hopefully, you will catch a glimpse of the wild deer in the ancient picturesque valley.
Sadly, today is your final day but before you leave you have another day of riding. Children will have their last pony day and adults their final half day ride. For the more experienced riders you can upgrade any of your half day rides to full days with lunch (there is a supplement for this).
Adults will have their afternoons free while the children enjoy pony days until 4pm. Therefore we would definitely suggest sampling the delights of the 'Museum Wines' which you are able to purchase and take home. The Village Inn has its own farm shop selling local produce and ales.
Salisbury train station transfers are available for those who plan to travel by train (£10 each way).
3 nights self-catering accommodation, 3 x 1/2 day rides for adults and 3 x pony days for children = £475pp
