Set close to the archaeological beauty spot of Creswell Crags you will find our riding centre. The yard itself, including the stables, date back to 1610. From here you can hack directly into Sherwood Forest, with rides ranging from half hour beginner hacks to three hour experienced forest treks all with limited to no road work. We can also provide excellent tuition for you with a highly qualified instructor in the all weather surface outdoor sand school. You have a choice of top class accommodation perfect for couples, friends and families with an award-winning pub and restaurant close by.
Arrive today and settle into your chosen accommodation, we have two options for you. The first is a stunning 5* Gold Award Bed and Breakfast set close to the beautiful Welbeck Estate in the heart of Sherwood Forest. The B&B has three individually decorated en-suite four poster Garden Rooms offering complete privacy, ideal for couples. Breakfast is served in the owner’s adjacent 1730 cottage; the newly added Eggs Royale is proving a huge hit with guests! We also have a super spa hotel offering twin, double and family rooms set within wooded grounds.
This afternoon, if time permits make the short drive over to the riding stables for your first riding lesson in the all weather surface outdoor sand school.
Today your riding level will determine as to how you spend your second day. Beginner novice riders will have a second lesson followed by a local bridleway hack which takes you out on a petal loop around the local quarry. Here the tracks are prefect for trotting and cantering if you are able to. The more experienced riders will head out on a 3hr picnic hack. Crossing only one quiet road you will hack along the sandy bridleways and pass through the Creswell Crags, making your way through the limestone gorge honeycombed with caves and smaller fissures. You will continue on further to explore the endless woodland routes that the famous Sherwood Forest has to offer. Here you will find endless canter paths, not a car in sight.
This evening why not make you way to the nearby award-winning pub; they pride themselves on using local suppliers and always producing freshly cooked meals. They have even won an award for the best burger in England!
Today is your final day and by now you should have a good relationship with your horse. You might want to arrange a final lesson before you go home if you are a novice rider, for the more experienced riders finish your stay with an hour hack.
When you are not riding there are planty of activities in and around the forest including Creswell Crags and the tree top adventure course at Go Ape.
