In the heart of the Southern Alentejo region of Portugal, within easy reach of the airports of Lisbon and Faro, you will find this beautiful countryside residence. Nestling amongst picturesque pasture land that is home to a herd of pure bred Lusitano horses.
Here you can relax as you learn to understand and appreciate the magnificent splendour of the Lusitano horse. You will be guided through this experience by chief instructor Nuno Baptista, both a national judge and a member of the national dressage team in Portugal. His skill and patience with the horses is evident in every corner of this wonderful farm and he will make your experience here one you will cherish for a lifetime.
At the start of your holiday, Nuno will show you around the grounds of the farm and to your accommodation. At dinner, Nuno will discuss with you your itinerary, you can choose from trail rides, ridden lessons or carriage driving instruction. Nuno will do his best to tailor each day to suit your particular needs and preferences and mixed groups of riders and non-riders, drivers and non-drivers are equally welcome.
The carriage driving and trail rides take place on the miles and miles of farm tracks and lanes that surround the Equestrian Centre. Here, you will hardly meet a single vehicle so you can just relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
As well as being a talented rider Nuno is an expert carriage driver and as I discovered, it really is thrilling driving a powerful Lusitano through the cork and olive trees to the natural lake. The many fragrances, colours and sounds of this beautiful region really leave a lasting imprint on your mind.
The accomodation is newly renovated and all rooms have ensuite facilities. There are a number of lounges where you can relax in the evening, or maybe you would prefer to sip a glass of wine in the gardens as you listen to the crickets singing their evening chorus. The food is a delight and both at lunchtime and in the evening the cook prepares splendid local cuisine featuring the very best of Alentejo’s renowned gastronomy.
The farm is suitable for non-riders and families as there are opportunities to go on bike rides, have archery lessons, canoe or even fish in the natural lake, to say nothing of mile upon mile of the most wonderful walking country.
The short breaks start from £395 per person for three nights. This includes instruction or trail riding from Nuno and full board.
Collection can be arranged from Faro or Lisbon airport at an extra cost.
