Day One
Arrive and settle into your accommodation. You will be staying at The Cottage B&B or similar. The Cottage B&B used to be part of the former rectory and it stands within 2 acres of grounds and is only a 5 minute walk from the beach, village pub and the stables. Swanage is 3 miles away whilst Poole & Bournemouth are only 10 miles via the Sandbanks Ferry. Tonight, we recommend that you eat in the village pub. Riding can begin today if you arrive by lunchtime or if not riding can start tomorrow.
Day Two
This morning you will be free to explore the Bournemouth countryside. You may like to go for a walk around Old Harry Rocks where you can take in the dramatic scenery of the coastal cliffs. From this fabulous viewpoint, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Jurassic coast and the entrance to Poole Harbour. This afternoon you will heading to the stables where there will be some time for you to get to know your horse before you depart on the heathland ride. You will be walking and trotting (cantering for more experienced riders) across the beautiful lowland heath along a multitude of paths and sandy tracks without a road in sight. The area is brimming with wildlife including Dartford warblers, nightjars and dragonflies.
Day Three
After a hearty breakfast at the B&B, you will have the morning free to visit the beautiful sandy beach, just a short walk away. There are a number of pubs close-by where you may like to enjoy lunch. This afternoon you will be riding out again in the surrounding countryside. During your ride you will see stunning views of Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour and Bournemouth. Additionally, you will see the famous sandstone block, perched on a conical hill that legend claims was thrown by the Devil from the Isle of Wight with the intention of destroying the local castle.
Additional rides on the heathland can be arranged with the stables during July and August.
This horse riding holiday in Bournemouth is perfect for beginners or nervous riders. You will be riding on the heathland around the stables. Unfortunately, only experienced riders can ride on the beach and around Old Harry Rocks. For more riding holidays please click here.
